Kathleen Yorba

As an abstract figurative painter based on the California Central Coast, my work explores the profound and multilayered theme of memory, as a source. Trusting the creative process of working mostly from memory, I aim to reveal the interplay between its known and unknown, seen and unseen qualities, not only in my artwork but in all aspects of life.

Memory is not just a human experience, but a universal one, and is a fundamental aspect of nature and the world around us. From the geological layers of the earth to the cycles of growth and decay in the natural world, memory is a pervasive force that shapes the present and informs the future.

Using marks and layers to evoke the complex and dynamic nature of memory, I create layered compositions that reflect the history and depth of our personal and collective memories, as well as those of the natural world. My work conveys the interplay between the visible and hidden aspects of memory by juxtaposing opaque and transparent layers.

Through my art, I invite viewers to explore the mysterious and captivating world of memory and its presence in all aspects of life. By contemplating the intricate interplay between memory and the world around us, we can gain a deeper understanding of our place in the universe and our connections to the past, present, and future.
